Alpaca Breeders Since 1993                February 2008

Issue: 1

From Chase Tavern Farm

Dear Alpaca Friend,

Warm Winter Wishes to your family from ours on this winter day. Our apoligies for not sending our January newsletter. We'll try to be better about getting these newsletters to you quicker in 2008.

We wanted to take a moment and thank you all for a great year in 2007 and our sincerest thanks for your patronage and support these past years.

Recently, we've experienced some personal life altering issues that have encouraged us to 'lighten our load.' After almost 15 years of raising and breeding alpacas, we are anticipating down-sizing our breeding operation greatly over the next year. As times change, our goals and life must change along with them. Our alpaca 'lives' will be modified to make room for these changes. Our current goal is to stay involved in the alpaca business, but at a more moderate level than in past years.

Because of this, we are offering our show quality stock and production alpacas at below retail and wholesale values. This is by no means a reflection on the level of quality they can and will produce in the future but truly a needed personal decision.

Please feel free to contact us with your particular interests and needs. We have over 80 alpacas being offered for sale and will be able to match you to the right ones. We are more than happy to discuss with you your goal's and then email you a database of selections with further photos and information for review. Alpacas include proven herdsires, show quality females, younger show males as well as production line dams - both Huacaya and Suri.

Again, we aren't going anywhere as far as the business is concerned but need to make these adjustments now to reach our goal by year's end.

Thank you all in advance for your time. We offer our warmest wishes for a safe, cria and fun-filled 2008!

We'll see you at the shows!

Cindy & Tim

What's New in the Show Ring for 2008

by Tim Lavan, AOBA Judge

The 2008 Alpaca show season has started. Last weekend I was in Las Vegas to judge the AOBA Fiber 2 Fashion Fleece Show. Soon I'll be heading to North Carolina to judge their halter show.

A good way to prepare yourself for upcoming shows is to read the 2008 version of the rulebook. Each year every member of the AOBA show division gets a copy of the new rulebook. Take a few minutes and read it. Any new changes for 2008 will be written in bold text. One of the more interesting new items in the book which has been added for 08 is the new Complaint Procedure. In the past if you had a problem or issue arise while at a show you had to actually file a formal protest. Now  there is a way to "complain" without actually having to make a formal protest. Hopefully people will make use of these procedures as the more feedback AOBA gets the better they can make the entire show system.

For more information on upcoming AOBA shows, visit their webpage at - www.alpacashows.com

If you have questions, feel free to send them to me and we will post them on my site - www.alpacajudge.net
